Your Personal Brand Sucks – and you don’t even know it
You heard me.
Your personal brand sucks, even if you’re making sales & earning money. And you don’t even know it, because you think its working.
There are three main reasons why your personal brand sucks, and they are also the three main reasons why you think everything is hunky dory.
- You are trying WAY too hard
- You are not being your AUTHENTIC self
- You are FAKING it.
Let’s break this down shall we?
You are trying WAY too hard
Having a strong personal brand isn’t about bombarding your potential audience with inconsistent, muddled information that swamps them with TOO MUCH INFO!
Your message needs to be consistent. It needs to be clear & easy to understand, and you NEED to believe in it to be believable.
But the other reason you are trying WAY too hard is because you are trying to be perfect.
Stop it.
Chasing ‘perfection’ is killing your brand. Who wants to be perfect??? It’s too scary. It feels unachievable. It’s BORING.
The first secret to your great personal brand not sucking anymore is BEING REAL. A great personal brand is about how accurately you paint a picture of yourself, and none of us are actually perfect. In fact far from it. Sharing your successes is great. But if all you do is create a dialogue about your brilliance, you’ll put people off. Fast.
Get something meaningful out there. Tell your true story. Share the bad stuff as well as the great stuff. Be real.
You are not being your authentic self
Living your fabulous personal brand is all about being authentic. You need to stop taking yourself too seriously, and you need to stop letting your ego get in the way.
Personal branding is about you. Your authentic you.
Not the you you think you need to be to be popular, or to be a carbon copy of someone else.
People buy the WHO behind the WHAT. So don’t disappoint them by being something else.
You are faking it.
Being authentic means not hiding behind ‘professionalism’. It’s about being genuine.
You are not a ‘we’! Stop talking about your business, your products, your services in the third person. ‘We do, we have, we help’…… if you are doing this solo, be truthful about it – stop ‘we-ing’ all over it.
Being authentic is also about making the right impact for the right reasons. Don’t focus on being ‘wacky & out there’ if that isn’t how you do business. You don’t need to do crazy stuff to stand out. Focus on your VALUE proposition, what others will buy from you because you are BETTER than your competition.
I feel so passionately about this I did a live broadcast about it.
I feel so passionately about this I coach people to make sure they get the right tools in their branding toolbox to tackle it.
If you want to be one of those people, give me a shout.
