Productivity has become quite a buzzword these days. I hear so many people talking about all the things they think they should be doing, all the things that they would be doing, all the things that they could be doing, if only..........
The trouble is, it's really easy to come up with endless excuses about why you don't actually do anything. I wrote a blog about this recently, called stop faffing and start doing, because I was aware already at that point that this was becoming a bit of a hot potato. Creating endless excuses is so much easier than actually getting off your butt and getting stuff done, which is why so many people end up faffing about going round and round in circles. Feeling really busy but not actually doing anything at all.
The curse of the endless excuse…
Procrastination is a wonderful thing. And it's the excuse given quite often for why you're not actually progressing with your plans for your business, whether that be short term, medium term or long term.
I’m so easily distracted!
Oh yes, I keep meaning to do that, but then life gets in the way!
I keep meaning to get that done, but then I need to do blah, blah, blah…
Sound familiar?
Change your mindset
We put ourselves under tremendous pressure to get things done. That starts by creating to do lists that are the equivalent of a chapter of War and Peace. We create endless lists of things we must do, things that need to be done, things that we have to focus on, complete, otherwise ‘our existence is pointless!’, our ‘businesses will fail!’ and we end up just basically going into meltdown.
Unfortunately, your lack of productivity is a major barrier to your business growth. The good news is you can change that!
You see, your lack of productivity means that you are unable to move forward with your business goals and dreams, and I know that that sounds very dramatic and grown up, but it's true.
If you don't have dreams and ambitions for your business, then – well done you, jog on twinkle and go read something else.
Because those of us who run our own businesses always have ideas and dreams that we want to implement to make our businesses better, whether that's more sales, more marketing, a change of focus, whatever it is that you need to change in your business in order to make those changes happen, you absolutely need to get your lack of productivity under control in order to get them done.
The first step in doing that, is to change your mindset from a ‘to do’ mindset to a ‘get focussed’ mindset. By changing the way that you plan your time from creating overwhelming and endless to do lists into short, sharp, focused lists, it is much easier to start taking those small steps towards those big dreams.
Over the past 20 years of being in business, I have created my unique four step planning programme to help you do just that. Even better, I've created this free eBook that shows you how to make it work and how to implement it.
